About Me

 Kelly Thiemthath

Hello classmates! My name is Kelly and this is my 4th year at Cal State. I was born/raised in Southeast San Diego and attended public school all my life. I attended Valencia Park Elementary,a school of known for their creative and performing arts program. A block away from Valencia was O'Farrell Community school, a charter school that was founded in 1995. After 8th grade, I moved to Riverside County, and attended two different high schools. For my freshman year, i went to Elsinore High. For my sophomore- senior year, I went to Temescal Canyon High. I feel that I received a well rounded education at all the public schools I attended.

I would consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to technology. All my life, I was exposed to all sorts of technology. My first time I came into contact with a computer was in kindergarten.  We all went to the computer lab, and taught how to use programs to aid us in our learning experience.  Some programs that I can recall were Math Munchers, Millie's Math House and Oregon Trail. Ever since I was a kid, I was intrigued by technology and amazed about all the possibilities I had using it. Today, technology continues to interest me because its part of my everyday life.  Its part of my educational experience and personal life.

When I read the COE Mission Statement, the very last line stood out to me. As future educators, everything that we do now up to retirement is for our students. We shouldn't go into education with an attitude of benefiting ourselves. I strongly believe in a student centered education.  Students should be able to facilitate their learning experience with others and apply to themselves. The mission statement of CSUSM was not a reason why I chose this school. I heard high praises about the teaching program here, and that is mainly why I chose this school

  1. I loved Oregon Trail! One of my favorite programs growing up.

I also really like your motive for becoming a teacher. It should never be about us but rather what we want to give and share to others.

  2. Hello Kelly! Reading your post brought back some childhood memories such as playing Oregon Trail at elementary school. I agree with you that one should not go into the field of education with an attitude of benefiting ourselves.
